Jacobite Dirk
Jacobite Dirk
Blade:
13 1/2" single edged blade of hand forged laminated antique wrought iron over a 1095 high carbon steel core, polished and deeply etched to show the structure of the iron, before being given a deep coffee patina, and honed to a fine edge. The iron for this piece comes from the grounds of Inverie House and dates to the Jacobite rebellion.
Handle:
The handle is hand carved exhibition grade walnut: the haunches have a deeply carved single band of 'dirk knot' braid, while the shaft has three bands of a ring knot pattern.
Mounts:
The pommel nut is sculpted brass while the ferrule is cold forged copper, as is the pommel plate, which is in the form of a Jacobite rose, with punched decoration and pierced crooked hearts showing the red suede liner underneath.
Sheath:
The blade is protected by a hand stitched heavy cowhide sheath, hand tooled with a knotwork device. The end of the sheath is reinforced with a forged copper chape.
